Warsaw Public Transport – The Lifeblood of the Capital

Warsaw Public Transport is truly the lifeblood of the city. Its extensive network of tram, rail – both above and underground – and bus lines reaches the farthest corners of Warsaw. Every day, it transports millions of passengers safely, comfortably, and punctually to work, school, or university.

An Impressive Scale of Sustainable Transport in Warsaw

Each day, over 1,500 buses, 400 tram sets, 62 metro trains, and 28 Warsaw Commuter Railway units operate on the capital’s streets. The total length of the Warsaw Public Transport lines exceeds 5,000 kilometers. In 2024, Warsaw’s public transport system carried nearly one billion passengers – an impressive achievement and a commitment to further develop sustainable urban mobility.

Public Transport – Essential for Residents

According to research, 96% of Warsaw’s residents consider public transport – alongside safety, cleanliness, and road order – one of the most important aspects of urban life. As many as 82% of users rate it positively. That’s why we continuously ensure passenger safety, travel comfort, and accessibility – both geographical and economic. We are constantly expanding the network, adapting flexibly to the needs of the growing city and its residents.

Savings through Sustainable Public Transport

Using public transport means real savings for household budgets. This is especially noticeable for those who opt for long-term tickets and give up private cars. With petrol prices around 5.7 PLN per liter, monthly fuel costs can reach 250 PLN. Meanwhile, traveling on all WTP lines with a "Warszawiak Card" costs only 98 PLN per month! Warsaw school students travel for free, and an annual senior ticket costs just 50 PLN. Even non-residents commuting by car can benefit from public transport by using one of the 17 P+R car parks and switching to public transport – a clear case of sustainable transport in practice.

Sustainable Transport and Environmental Care

Sustainable public transport also means caring for the natural environment. The more people use public transport, the fewer cars on the roads and the lower the emissions. For example, a single articulated bus can carry up to 150 people – that’s dozens of cars off the road. The same applies to trams, metro, or SKM trains, which transport massive numbers of passengers.

Modern, Eco-Friendly Fleet

Warsaw Public Transport is committed to modernity and ecology. Around 160 electric buses, 70 hybrids, and 345 gas-powered vehicles operate in the capital. Even diesel buses meet strict emission standards, while rail-based transport is naturally zero-emission. Green roofs on bus shelters, covered with sedum plants, and green tram tracks help purify the air, cool the city, and store water – another step towards sustainable urban transport.

Warsaw Public Transport – Tailored to Modern Needs

In summary, Warsaw Public Transport is a solution tailored to modernity, the needs of residents, contemporary challenges, and sustainable development. By choosing public transport, you’re taking care not only of your comfort and finances but also of the environment and the future of Warsaw.
